Aspire
July 30, 2009
I went to a very interesting breakfast seminar this morning held at the University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus. We had an introduction to the buildings and then a tour of the site which includes the public work of art – Aspire. It is a 60 foot steel tower! This has had some bad press locally but I think the whole site and the giant sculpture is fascinating. Here’s a dull fact – it took 500 tons of concrete to secure the tower. See pictures of this on the architects web site – Ken Shuttleworth at Make…

Ah well – off for my two week annual break now…. Nige
New Arrival at the Dairy….
July 21, 2009
We have a new member of the dairy team arriving in a couple of weeks – but this isn’t her….
This chap wobbled in to our studio yesterday looking a little tired and lost. We presume it is a homing pigeon that quite like the look of ours…. Anyway, I am happy to report that after Creative Director Shaun had a chat with him, he wobbled off again…..
New Work for DDDC
July 20, 2009
Here’s the latest design and print work from the dairy. New client Derbyshire Dales District Council needed a booklet producing swiftly to promote the various sports activities on offer during the school holidays. The result was a bright and breezy 28pp A5 brochure which was designed, artworked and printed inside of two weeks!
Chips
July 17, 2009
No, not that sort. Chips the fantstic apartment building in Manchester delivered by Urban Splash and designed by Will Alsop… (http://www.alsoparchitects.com/ nice web site)
There was an interesting piece in last Sundays’ Observer about the development. Architectural reporter Stephen Bayley wrote and praised it highly – he called for more chips around the country. You can see more at http://www.urbansplash.co.uk/projects/chips
Well I think dairy client Blueprint Regeneration has delivered an, as exciting project in Phoenix Square, Leicester. Perhaps I ought to write to the Observer about it!! http://www.phoenixsquare.org/Living
Local Help for Businesses
July 15, 2009
I went to an interesting breakfast seminar this morning. Hosted by the IBA, it was an effort by the local public bodies to encourage SME’s to find the help that is available to ease the economic woes of the recession.
It was a very useful hour or so and opened my eyes to what is on offer to businesses based in Nottingham and the East Midlands. As a design and web agency, we at the dairy often assume that there will be nothing relevant to a company our size – however, one thing shone like a beacon to me!
The city council (who are a client of the dairy) have promised to bring their payment terms down from 32 days to 20 – now that is a good thing….

Tune of the week
July 14, 2009
Sounds vaguely late 70’s American pop corny…. The Calculation by Regina Spektor… it’s a favourite in certain parts of the dairy in currently sunny Nottingham…. give it a go…
Did you know?
July 10, 2009
… that before it re-branded in 1998 to Google, the world’s number one search engine was called ‘Back Rub’!!!
Another fascinating fact from the dairy, Nottingham’s favourite design agency..
Wish Us Luck
July 9, 2009
The prestigious ‘Roses’ design awards are coming to Nottingham for the first time. The awards night is at the East Midlands Conference Centre on 23rd October and the dairy hopes to be there as we have entered client work in two categories.
More news to follow as the nominations are out next week….
Google Alerts
July 6, 2009
Do you use Google Alerts? It’s a great, free of charge application that allows you to sign up for certain words or names – that when mentioned on the web – will alert you to the fact.
The problem for us though is that we now get a mail everytime a dairy is mentioned on the web – how big is the milk, butter and cheese industry!!!
