Latest Intern Blog

September 23, 2013

Hello! I’m the last intern of the 2013 crop for the Dairy, and it seems that I have a big legacy to live up to (I’ve already been advised that a few homemade baked goods may sweeten the deal).  My name is Sophie Diamond (sadly no relation of Neil) and I graduated from the University of Nottingham in July with an English Degree. Now I’m looking into the working world. The folks here at the Dairy have been kind enough to let me come and have a look at their business for the next two weeks. It’s taken me a bit longer than some to figure out what kind of work to go into, but from hearing about the work they do here I think Advertising/Marketing sounds fab, and I can’t wait to see the work in action over my time here.

I’m a typical English student, I love to read and am constantly looking for the next great book to delve into. (If you haven’t read ‘Me Before You’ by Jojo Moyes I highly recommend it). I’ve spent a lot of time studying words, their arrangement, their meanings and rewriting and grammar checking, at the Dairy I’m seeing words put into action for the first time. My degree, which I worked very hard for, is coming into fruition and it’s exponentially more exciting than trying to decipher what John Milton may or may not have intended from his use of Iambic Pentameter… (really, don’t ask, I still don’t have a clue). I’m really looking forward to seeing something I’ve written appear in cyberspace, seeing the thought processes behind campaigns and being the tiniest part of it, even if that’s providing refreshments for the thinkers.

My first day has been a wonderful introduction and they couldn’t have been friendlier or more willing to answer questions. I’ve got high hopes for my time here and I’m certain it’ll only exceed my expectations.
