A Google doodle to mark the occasion
January 9, 2013
Today marks the 150th anniversary of the first underground journey taken between Paddington and Farringdon on the Metropolitan Railway.
The occasion has been marked by US Internet giant Google with a homepage doodle.
The concept of the doodle was born in 1998 when Google founders Larry and Sergey played with the logo to indicate their attendance at the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert. They placed a simple stick figure behind the 2nd “o” in the word, Google. the revised logo was intended as a comical message to Google users that the founders were “out of office.” Over time, the demand for doodles has increase, as to has their complexity.
